Horror DVD and Blu-ray Releases: March 18, 2014

Wondering what’s headed home this coming March 18th? Well, courtesy of the reliable, and insanely awesome Rue Morgue, we’ve got a list for you. Whether on the hunt for DVD or Blu-ray, hyped or underrated, we’ve got the skinny! Here’s the breakdown on what’s headed our way this Tuesday!

20 ft. Below (Vertical): Below the streets of New York is a dark and dangerous world hidden in the shadows of abandoned subway tunnels and miles of forgotten infrastructure. When a young documentary filmmaker goes into these tunnels to uncover the unseen stories of the people living below our feet, she finds out that there is more to be afraid of than the dark. A mysterious figure, living beyond the reach of the law, has declared war on the outside world that threatens to tear apart the fragile underground society living in the tunnels and maybe even the city above it.

Barricade (Image) – DVD and blu-ray: This movie is about the Shade family, a year after the death of the mother/wife Leah, the husband and father (Eric McCormack) and his two children go to a cabin retreat in the mountains. While there they are tormented by visions and happenings that start to scare them. But are these incidents real or in their minds? The father feels compelled to barricade them in the cabin in order to keep them safe. But will it work out?

Battle of the Undead (Screen Media): Doron, an Israeli security operative, takes on one last mission: go to Lebanon and capture a top member of the Hezbollah terrorist organization. Joined by an elite force, Doron soon discovers that there is a far greater threat at hand than Hezbollah – the dead are rising. After the horrifying Battle of the Undead, the Middle East will never be the same!

Buckwild (Millennium): Craig Thompson’s idyllic hunting trip with his two buddies and unstable cousin is wrecked after hearing that his fiancé and best man-to-be have been cavorting behind his back. To make matters worse, his cousin appears on the verge of a murderous rampage while a rapidly-spreading Chupacabra virus is turning locals into the undead. After shooting the ranch owner, drugging the Game Warden, and narrowly escaping an insidious hillbilly gang led by British magnifico, Billy Ray, the boys must not only survive an impending zombie melee but each other. BUCK WILD turns the buddy comedy upside down while tearing zombies inside out in this tongue-in-cheek adventure through South Texas.

Contracted (MPI): After a lapse in her relationship with her lover (Katie Stegeman) forces twenty-something party girl Samantha (Najarra Townsend) to move back in with her overbearing mother (Caroline Williams, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2), things seem to be at an all-time low. But the devil-may-care Samantha soon finds escape in a one-night stand with a mysterious man (Simon Barrett, V/H/S) who leaves her hung-over, guilt-ridden and infected. Uncertain of the disease or the man who gave it to her, Samantha attempts to hide it from her loved ones. But she soon realizes that she is not just the victim of an STD, but rather the host of something much more catastrophic, and that she and those around her are in mortal danger. Part zombie film and part body-horror shocker, director Eric England s CONTRACTED is a skin-crawling experience in biological horror.

Here Comes the Devil (Magnolia) – DVD and blu-ray: A couple’s son and daughter inexplicably reappear after being lost overnight on a desolate, cave-riddled mountainside. Becoming withdrawn and beginning to exhibit strange behavior, their parents quickly assume something sinister happened to them. But after hearing an ominous local legend, the concerned mother and father begin to realize that their children may have fallen prey to something inhuman and that this dark, unstoppable evil has now returned home with them.

Outpost 3: Rise of the Spetznaz (Xlrator) – DVD and blu-ray: In the third installment of the hit Nazi Zombie action-horror franchise, OUTPOST III: RISE OF THE SPETSNAZ, we discover the horrifying origins of these supernatural soldiers as they battle the most ruthless and notorious of all military special forces: the Russian Spetsnaz. Bryan Larkin stars as the lead Russian Dolokhov alongside James The Colossus Thompson (Ultimate Combat World Heavyweight Champion) as The Berserker.

Zombie Dawn (Eagle One Media): In 2006 a mysterious mining accident in a remote territory unleashes an unspeakable horror that creates a zombie horde with an appetite for human flesh. It decimates larges portions of the country. The only course of action is to rapidly enclose the infected areas and seal them off from the rest of the remaining, living population before the horror can spread. Now, 15 years later, the tattered remains of the government and the mining corporation responsible where the initial event took place commit themselves to finding out what may have happened at the mining complex. The solution is to send in a group of mercenaries lead by a cynical but no nonsense Colonel and scientists into the quarantined zone to find answers. But what they begin to find is more then they bargained for as much has transpired in the 15 years since the zone enclosure. And it soon becomes a fight for their very survival as they must not only battle the unknown but themselves as each of them has their own agenda and reasons for taking part in what may very well be a one way mission.
