You’ve got to see the new trailer. It’s an absolute blast, and while it appears extremely dark, it doesn’t look to sport a full-fledged mirrored mood to The Conjuring. That’s a good thing. Bringing something new to this haunting world will increase the chances for true longevity (I could eat up a dozen franchise movies if studio execs can ensure the sequels/spinoffs are even remotely near as wicked as The Conjuring) while adding a generally cool ripple to the brand.

Annabelle Wallis (Peaky Blinders), Alfre Woodard (Primal Fear), Ward Horton (The Wolf of Wall Street) Tony Amendola (Blow), Eric Ladin (Cursed), and Brian Howe (Gran Torino) will star in the pic. John Leonetti, the cinematographer of The Conjuring, is directing from a script written by Gary Dauberman.
