What’s New on DVD and blu-ray This Week (August 19, 2014)

What’s headed to discs this week? A whole slew of greatness! Keep an eye out for one of the year’s best in Septic Man, a quality commercial release in The Quiet Ones and a number of interesting indie releases, included the much-discussed Only Lovers Left Alive. Read on for the full rundown!

Croc (Echo Bridge): In coastal Thailand, tourists love exotic animal shows. Jack, the owner of a crocodile farm, has tried time and time again to tap into this money maker, but the bills are piling up and animal welfare is on his case. To make matters worse, a giant, man-eating croc has been sinking its teeth into everyone in its path. The authorities immediately blame the attacks on one of Jack’s creatures, though he knows that can’t be the case. To prove his innocence, Jack teams up with a croc-hunting expert (Michael Madsen) and prepares for the ultimate underwater showdown.

FACE: A Frat Party Massacre (Pathfinder): From the Producer of V/H/S and V/H/S 2 comes Face: A Frat Party Massacre. An annual Halloween fear competition between a fraternity and sorority goes awry when drugs, alcohol and the old battle of the sexes are mixed together. What’s on the line? The losers must do anything the winners ask for one night. The bros won last year. They not only violated the loser, but uploaded the footage on the internet.

Jamie (Sienna Beckman), the head of the sorority, wants vengeance. She has concocted a devilish plan to humiliate the frat brothers and come out on top. However, she’s not aware that Matt (Scott Alin), the head of the fraternity, has machinations of his own. Who will win this year? At what cost? The lives of men, women and animals are at stake in this unflinching, carnal, depraved film that will mutilate the way you see the opposite sex forever.

Legend of Hell (Phase 4 Films): Three unlikely allies must team up to save humanity when the portal to hell is opened and the undead begin to walk the earth. The group races to find an artifact of great power to close the portal before all hope is lost.

Maneater (Echo Bridge): Small town sheriff Grady Barnes (Gary Busey) doesn’t encounter many serious crimes while he’s on the clock, so discovering that the nearby woods are littered with body parts is the ultimate shock. While investigating the source of these vicious attacks, Grady learns that the monstrous paw prints found in the forest could only belong to one animal—a blood-thirsty tiger. Now he must protect the panicked community from this dangerous Maneater before the body count becomes insurmountable.

Neverlake (Phase 4 Films): A teenager visiting her estranged father in Italy stumbles across the Neverlake, an ancient lake said to be guarded by the spirits of the dead. There she befriends a peculiar group of children who are each plagued by strange injuries. As she uncovers the horrific secrets behind the lake – and her new friends – she becomes haunted by disturbing visions that connect to her own mysterious past. However, the ghosts of the past may be more dangerous than she ever thought possible.

Their love story has endured several centuries but their debauched idyll is threatened by the uninvited arrival of Eve’s carefree little sister Ava (Mia Wasikowska) who hasn’t yet learned to tame her wilder instincts.
