Thanksgiving? How Can We Be Thankful for These 10 Horror Turkeys?

Written by: Paula Limbaugh

With Thanksgiving coming up I thought it would be a nice time to reflect back on all the horror movies of 2014 thus far.  Looking back I realized there’s a lot of TURKEYS!!

So without further ado let’s take a look at my top 10 Turkeys!

I, Frankenstein

Directed by: Stuart Beattie

Cast includes: Aaron Eckhart, Bill Nighy and Miranda Otto

Seriously, a sci-fi horror remake of Frankenstein’s Monster?  While the monster is burying Dr Frankenstein, he is attacked by demons.  Gargoyles save him and the old good versus evil battle begins. It just doesn’t work although I have to say there were a few cool special effects!

The Purge: Anarchy

Directed by: James DeMonaco

Cast includes: Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo and Zach Gilford

You’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. I have to admit this was slightly better than the first movie, but again it’s just another “home invasion” type flick that is getting so trite.

Annabelle

Directed by: John R Leonetti

Cast includes: Ward Horton, Annabelle Wallis and Alfre Woodard

Okay, you can say it, I suck!  I’m sorry but this movie was lame, I hated The Conjuring and I hated this. Basically an amped up Chuckie for me!

Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones

Directed by: Christopher Landon

Cast includes: Andrew Jacobs, Jorge Diaz and Gabrielle Walsh

Way back when there was a movie called Paranormal Activity, which was pretty good. Then there was Paranormal Activity 2, then 3 then 4 and now 5, enough’s enough!!!

Devil’s Due

Directed by: Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett

Cast includes: Allison Miller, Zach Gilford, and Sam Anderson

I was so ready to be scared and instead I laughed!  Geez, where have I seen this movie before, hmm Rosemary’s Baby?!

Cabin Fever: Patient Zero

Directed by: Kaare Andrews

Cast includes: Sean Astin, Currie Graham and Ryan Donowho

All I have to say is I’m glad I didn’t pay to see this movie.  I’ve seen better on The Lifetime Channel. LOL

At the Devil’s Door

Directed by: Nicholas Mc Carthy

Cast includes: Catalina Sandino Moreno, Naya Rivera and Ashley Rikards

This started out with a lot of promise and then it fell flat. The opening scenes show a teenage girl playing a game with her soul at stake, after that it goes south.  There is no cohesion to this story!

Stage Fright

Directed by: Jerome Sable

Cast includes: Meatloaf, Minnie Driver and Allie MacDonald

Alright, I knew going into this that it would be cheesy, I mean c’mon Meatloaf is in it. So technically it’s a turkey but at least you’ll get a few laughs.

Hazard Jack

Directed by: David Worth

Cast includes: Amanda Maddox, Alison Lani and Kevin James Sporman

Sooo, we have a group of college kids, gratuitous nudity, a deranged man and an abandoned hospital, I know! Let’s make a horror film, Yea!! Seriously, don’t waste your time.

Mr. Jones

Directed by Karl Mueller

Cast includes Jon Foster, Sarah Jones and Mark Steger

Another “found footage” movie that ended up being lost. The film didn’t stay in format and became disjointed. The story began to drag and I kept thinking this has to be the end; this has to be the end. A long drawn out 90 minutes!

Feel free to comment, let me what’s on YOUR turkey list!

  1. for the record i LOVED Purge: Anarchy – SOOOO much better than the first, And I REALLY dug Stage Fright – one of the most entertaining musicals I’ve seen in AGES.

  2. Heading into I,Frankenstein I wanted so badly for the critics to be wrong; for the fans to be wrong; but alas…I cannot deny that you are indeed correct = ‘Turkey’!
