RIP: Phantasm’s Angus Scrimm Dies at the Age of 89

Angus Scrimm stole the hearts of horror fanatics by bringing the villainous Tall Man to life in Don Coscarelli’s Phantasm franchise. And that’s why it’s a serious heart-breaker to announce the man’s passing. He died today at, January 9th at the age of 89.

Don Coscarelli broke the news, writing, Angus Scrimm passed away peacefully tonight surrounded by his friends and loved ones. He was 89 years old. His performance as the Tall Man is a towering achievement in horror film history. He was the last in a long line of classic horror movie stars. Angus was a terrific actor and an even better friend. He will be missed.

Scrimm’s genre work stretches beyond Coscarelli’s masterful series; he also appeared in noteworthy films like John Dies at the End, I Sell the Dead, Incident on and Off a Mountain Road, Satanic, Mindwarp (aka Brain Slasher), Chopping Mall, and Subspecies.
