7 Best Horror/Crime Movies On Netflix

Written by: Wesley Thomas

Love crime movies with a thrilling, even chilling edge? You want investigations but with something more sinister? Here we go!

Evidence

Detectives Burquez and Reese are desperately hunting for answers as to why five people were brutally murdered at an abandoned gas station in the middle of the desert. The only evidence they have is captured video footage found on the victims’ cameras and cell phones. As the mystery unfolds, it becomes chillingly clear that the killer is taunting the investigators, and the only way to end this bloody reign of terror is to decipher the deadly puzzle before he kills again. This is a great one, and starring Stephen Moyer from True Blood. That in itself should be a good enough reason to watch it right?

The Tortured

An upper-middle-class couple’s life is destroyed when their only child is kidnapped and killed. Obsessed with revenge, the couple seizes an opportunity to kidnap the killer. Starring Jesse Metcalfe from ‘Desperate Housewives.’ But in this he isn’t the hunky gardener, but a man with vengeance in mind… Sick, twisted, and terrific!

Lizzie Borden Took An Axe

Even though this is technically a biopic, it had to be mentioned. It is crime/horror, and stars the scream queen herself, Christina Ricci! Lizzie Borden Took an Axe is a 2014 American television biopic about Lizzie Borden, a young American woman tried and acquitted of the murders of her father and stepmother in Fall River, Massachusetts, in 1892. It premiered on Lifetime on January 25, 2014.

The Guest

A soldier introduces himself to the Peterson family, claiming to be a friend of their son who died in action. After the young man is welcomed into their home, a series of accidental deaths seem to be connected to his presence. This is messed up. So obviously, it is excellent!

Pay the Ghost

One year after Mike Lawford’s young son disappeared during a Halloween carnival, he is haunted by eerie images and terrifying messages he can’t explain. Together with his estranged wife, he will stop at nothing to unravel the mystery and find their son-and, in doing so, he unearths a legend that refuses to remain buried in the past. Nicolas Cage is excellent, showing desperation and terror as he delves deeper into the unknown.

Bound to Vengeance

A young girl, chained in the basement of a sexual predator, escapes and turns the tables on her captor. Similar elements to ‘I Spit On Your Grave’, but with an edge. Enjoyable and thrilling.

Hannibal

Who says sequels suck? This one certainly doesn’t! After having successfully eluded the authorities for years, Hannibal peacefully lives in Italy in disguise as an art scholar. Trouble strikes again when he is discovered leaving a deserving few dead in the process. He returns back to America to once again make contact with now disgraced Agent Clarice Starling who is suffering the wrath of a malicious FBI official/rival as well as the media. Meanwhile, Hannibal must survive the advances by a disfigured and vengeful victim he first came in contact with years ago as a patient. Gripping, unnerving, and brilliant!

  1. Though it leans more toward psychological thriller than horror per se, have you seen ‘The Perfect Host’ with David Hyde Pierce (of ‘Frasier’ fame)? This little ditty of a flick really surprised me. Based on some of your Netflix suggestions so far, you may like it.
