‘Penny Dreadful’ Cancelled After Third Season
This news really bums me out. Showtime’s Penny Dreadful is one of those rare genre shows that really grabs viewers, has told a consistently strong story and hasn’t run its course, yet it’s being canceled after three seasons.
Shame on you, Showtime.
Creator John Logan recently spoke with Deadline to clear things up a bit for fans like myself, scratching the old noggin’.
“I can absolutely confirm it is really over, the end — that’s all she wrote.” He states, comparing the show to a poem, “…haikus and some are meant to be sonnets and some are meant to be enormous epics, and this was always meant to be a sonnet. It was something of grace and beauty. I think we’ve been able to achieve that in a really masterful way with the artists that I work with, everyone’s work. I think this is the right ending so for me to revisit that world again would seem inorganic, I think.”
Well, we want a long, drawn out, downright grueling ballad. How about that, John?
Penny Dreadful has been great, as have the focal cast, which includes Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Josh Hartnett, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear, and Harry Treadaway.
The show, if you haven’t seen it, is a loving nod to Universal monsters and the greats of yesteryear who now take up space in the public domain.
Seek out the first season and give it a shot. You may find yourself surprised.
It’s a crying shame this has ended, but wow….what an ending. The finale especially was a loving tribute to both the Universal and Hammer horror movies

That sucks, but now I can binge watch all 3 seasons with my wife. I only watched half of S1 but have the rest lined up to watch in order. Thanks for the update!
