Just As We Suspected, Noomi Rapace Returns for ‘Alien: Covenant’

I’ve been called crazy for my insistence that Noomi Rapace would return to the Alien/Prometheus universe in, at the very least, Alien: Covenant. Ridley Scott let it slip out months and months ago that Rapace would be back, but approaching a smaller role. And then he said all kinds of other sorta-vague-kinda-uncertain-sometimes-contradictory things. Then he said Rapace would not be back.

I applaud Ripley for aiming to keep this story as under wraps as possible, and I respect the man to the greatest degree imaginable. I’m not a huge fan of the anonymity tactics, and I’ve been pretty vocal about that in the past but that’s because I, like a lot of you, am a nerd who loves these flicks. Of course I want to know as much as possible in advance of an official screening. Knowing a few facts, seeing a few images… well, that’s just not the same as taking in that picture for the first time on a massive screen with screaming speakers surrounding an anxious group of bug-eyed fanatics. There’s no ruining that moment with a few spoilers.

Deadline confirms Rapace’s involvement. Apparently, she’s currently on set shooting “weeks” worth of material. We just might see the lovely doctor’s official exit in the Prometheus sequel, which also serves as another Alien prequel.

Sources close to film and actress tell The Playlist that [Katherine] Waterston will be playing Ellen Ripley’s mother in Alien: Covenant, which is an amazing twist and true to Scott’s promise that the post-Prometheus prequels will eventually lead right up to the first Alien movie. But it should be noted that Waterston isn’t the lead of the movie, and it’s an ensemble piece like Prometheus. –HFN

Michael Fassbender also reprises the role of the android, David.

Demian Bichir, Danny McBride, Jussie Smollett, Carmen Ejogo, Amy Seimetz, and Callie Hernandez round out the primary cast.

Synopsis: Bound for a remote planet on the far side of the galaxy, the crew of the colony ship Covenant discovers what they think is an uncharted paradise, but is actually a dark, dangerous world — whose sole inhabitant is the “synthetic” David (Michael Fassbender), survivor of the doomed Prometheus expedition.
