‘Scary Little F*ckers’ is an Early Christmas Gift Gone Wrong (Review)

Written by: Matt Molgaard

Directed by: Nathan Suher

Cast: Anna Rizzo, Monica Saviolakis, Mary C. Ferrara

Scary Little F*ckers plays as an over the top nod to Joe Dante’s original Gremlins film. And while Dante’s picture didn’t require blatantly on in-your-face jokes, Scary Little F*ckers does just that. But don’t let that turn you off as this little piece is completely respectful of the source. Director Nathan Suher isn’t poking cruel fun at Gremlins, he’s clearly paying his respects the best way he knows how to.

I’m glad for this little treat, if I’m being honest.

Ludicrous comedy horrors often tickle my funny bone, and Scary Little F*ckers is constantly tapping away at my patella. And to think, I haven’t even touched on our pseudo-Gremlins.

The big rule behind these critters has nothing to do with water or midnight snacks, the rule here – don’t put two of these nasties in the same cage – is theoretically much easier to avoid breaking. But being careful and keeping these guys separated would be… well, boring. That wouldn’t exactly make for great entertainment..

The critters all look like slightly modified stuffed animals and that fits the production perfectly. Any more design details on these guys and things wouldn’t quite work. As is, this is a blast of a feature that will no doubt see plenty of screen time once Christmas draws closer.

Whether you dig this or not depends wholly on your sense of humor. If you’re a pretty loose individual who doesn’t mind laughing at silly humor, you’re in for something special!
