Trailer Reveal for ‘Oldboy’ Director’s Latest, ‘The Handmaiden’
Chan-wook Park’s new project, The Handmaiden has some serious buzz surrounding it, and now that the trailer reveal is upon us we get a nice look at what madness we can expect from the film!
If you’re a little stumped by my excitement, I’ll clear it up for you. Chan-wook Park isn’t your average filmmaker. He’s not your typical solid, or even good director. The man is absolutely amazing, dropping stunning flick after stunning flick. And even if I’m correct in guessing you lack knowledge of the name, I have little doubt that you know a few of elite pictures. Pictures like the outlandish Oldboy, the infectious Thirst, Lady Vengeance (I’ve yet to see this film, admittedly) and the particularly taut piece, Stoker. He’s got true talent, and he knows his horror well, which is why we’re very excited to be sharing the brand new trailer reveal for Park’s latest film, The Handmaiden.
The film stars Min-hee Kim (No Tears for the Dead), Jung-woo Ha (Chronicle of a Blood Merchant), Tae-ri Kim (Citizan Zombie) and Jin-woong Cho (The Front Line).
The Handmaiden had its world premiere at the 2016 Festival de Cannes
Amazon Studios and Magnolia Pictures will send The Handmaiden in our direction later this year, as the pic is scheduled to arrive in theaters on October 14, 2016.
And finally, here’s that trailer for you!
Synopsis: From PARK Chan-wook, the celebrated director of OLDBOY, LADY VENGEANCE, THIRST and STOKER, comes a ravishing new crime drama inspired by the novel ‘FINGERSMITH’ by British author Sarah Waters. Having transposed the story to 1930s-era colonial Korea and Japan, Park presents a gripping and sensual tale of a young Japanese Lady living on a secluded estate, and a Korean woman who is hired to serve as her new handmaiden, but who is secretly involved in a conman’s plot to defraud her of her large inheritance. Powered by remarkable performances from KIM Min-hee (RIGHT NOW, WRONG THEN) as Lady Hideko, HA Jung-woo (THE CHASER) as the conman who calls himself the Count and sensational debut actress KIM Tae-ri as the maid Sookee, THE HANDMAIDEN borrows the most dynamic elements of its source material and combines it with PARK Chan-wook’s singular vision and energy to create an unforgettable viewing experience.
