It’s an absolutely insane week for horror releases. We’re talking about the kind of week that flat out forces fans to wrench thosr wallets from their pockets. From old to new, DVD to remastered Blu-ray, there really is a staggering lineup of new releases to pick from this week.
Here’s our breakdown of the new releases you should be eager to get your hands on!
The Conjuring 2 (Blu-ray & DVD)
The supernatural thriller brings to the screen another real case from the files of renowned demonologists Ed and Lorraine Warren. Reprising their roles, Oscar nominee Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson star as Lorraine and Ed Warren, who, in one of their most terrifying paranormal investigations, travel to north London to help a single mother raising four children alone in a house plagued by malicious spirits.
Evil Dead 2 (Blu-ray)
The lone survivor of an onslaught of flesh-possessing spirits holds up in a cabin with a group of strangers while the demons continue their attack.
The Horrible Dr. Hichcock (Blu-Ray)
From director Robert Hampton, (Lust Of The Vampire) comes The Horrible Dr. Hichcock, the twisted and terrifying tale of Dr. Bernard Hichcock (Robert Flemyng, The Quiller Memorandum) whose secret desires and perverse passions lead to the death of his wife, Margaret (Teresa Fitzgerald, Class of Iron). Remarrying years later, the doctor’s new bride Cynthia (Barbara Steele, Pit and the Pendulum) is unaware that her husband intends to use her blood to reanimate the corpse of his dearly departed Margaret.
In her quest for fame, drama student Stella gets caught in the grip of a mysterious and deadly stage school. Stella longs to be an actress. When she is accepted to a private school in Berlin, her dream seems to come true. But there is something wrong with the “Matteusz Gdula-Institute”. In the seventies, the school´s founder, Matteusz Gdula, practiced a learning style that promised to let students shine by driving them to their mental limits. In the end his method was banned, as mysterious deaths occurred during his lessons and Gdula committed suicide. At night, Stella hears eerie sounds in the corridors of the school. A fellow student disappears. Stella suspects that behind the closed door to the abandoned, forbidden wing of the school lurks a bloody secret. A secret that kills the students…
The Monster of Piedras Blancas (Blu-ray & DVD)
For a town photographed in black & white, Piedras Blancas is teeming with colorful characters. There’s Sturges (John Harmon, Monsieur Verdoux), the lighthouse keeper who makes it a ritual to leave food out near a secluded beach cave for, well, something; Lucy (Jeanne Carmen, Born Reckless), Sturges’ zaftig daughter, a free thinker who clearly doesn’t pay attention to daddy’s warnings about skinny dipping near the cave; Lucy’s boyfriend Fred (Don Sullivan, The Giant Gila Monster), a young man more than willing to keep an eye on Lucy; and the dedicated man of science Dr. Sam Jorgensen (Les Tremayne, The Fortune Cookie) who’s out to solve the mysterious murders. It will become painfully obvious to Sturges (and the unfortunate inhabitants of Piedras Blancas): never miss a feeding!
The Neon Dead (DVD)
An unemployed recent college grad hires two freelance paranormal exterminators to combat a monster infestation in her new home. But their prodding into the new evil found in the home unleashes an ancient demon and his army of monsters, intent to possess any human they make contact with.
Not Another Zombie Movie (DVD)
Franklin and Mike find themselves trapped in the undead-infested Cyrene City, where they must attempt to lead a group of unconventional survivors to safety. As they join forces with the likes of a pregnant woman, a moronic arms dealer, and a mentally challenged man, they will have to determine which is worse: relying on each other or succumbing to the zombie mayhem. While this uprising of zombies has overwhelmed the city, Mr. Roberts, the CEO of R2 Pharmaceuticals, has sent in a team of mercenaries known as the S.I.E.G.E into Cyrene City to recover the only known antidote for his own financial gain.
Puppet Master 4 Remastered (DVD)
Toulon’s Puppets for once, are about to do something good. As the bad puppets turn good! The mini-menaces Blade, Tunneler and Pinhead, go toe-to-toe with their most menacing enemy yet–a team of terrifying, gremlin-like creatures known as Totems that are sent by the evil Egyptian demon Sutekh to recapture the magic stolen by Toulon. The demons target a young scientist, Rick who is now in possession of the Puppet Master secrets. As the creatures attempt to terminate his research and regain the secret of life, they leave a deadly path of destruction until the evil Totems finally find Toulon’s puppets in their way. Puppet Master 5 Remastered (DVD)
In the darkened Bodega Bay Inn, the greedy Dr. Jennings has come to pilfer Blade, Six Shooter, Jester, Pinhead, Torch, Tunneler, and Decapitron to discover the source of their animation. Hoping to get rich quick, he plans to sell their secrets as implements of war. Sutekh, the dark pharaoh from another dimension, has sent his own puppet, Totem, to continue his quest to kill Puppet Master Rick and steal the magic which animates the puppets.
