The Wizard of Oz
We’ve seen in a few episodes during season seven that individual Easter Eggs aren’t necessarily as pronounced as Easter Egg Themes. In this episode, the parallels between The Wizard of Oz and the great kingdom and Ezekial’s own kingdom are absurdly similar. Carol, like Dorothy, wakes to a world so amazing and over the top it can’t possibly be real. She meets an assortment of new awkwardly upbeat individuals, and she even makes her way to the great tower that the wizard calls home. And just like the wizard in The Wizard of Oz, the wizard here, Ezekial, is basically a complete fraud. His power is more of an illusion than anything else. If the giant tiger by his side didn’t convince you he’s not exactly on the up and up, slap yourself.
