Exploitation films of all types were really hitting hard through the latter part of the 70’s creating several sub-genres that mostly skirted horror and obscenity, and this rape-revenge sexploitation installment really made an impact. Landing on the U.K.’s Video Nasty list this movie was also banned in Ireland, Iceland, Germany, and Norway for violence, lengthy gang rape, and glorified violence against women. Originally titled Day of the Woman, it follows a young female writer who has decided to rent a cottage by the lake to work on her first novel. Local men take an interest in her and in a gang rape scene taking about thirty minutes of the movies run time we watch her undergo one sexual degradation after another. Left for dead and completely humiliated, she plots her revenge on the attackers, seducing, hanging and hacking her way to justice. Many viewers struggle with the lengthy rape scenes and many find it hard to get through the film, it’s had a ton of controversy and has even been considered one of the worst films ever made. In 2010 this movie got a re-make that got people talking all over again, and this one spurned two sequels so far.
