Whoa, is that the Alien Queen and Engineers in the New ‘Alien: Covenant’ Poster?

At first glance the new Alien: Covenant poster looks like an awesome exploration of H.R. Giger’s beautifully twisted mind. But after staring at this bad boy for a few minutes, I’m starting to see a few very interesting things.

First, get a look at the poster, so you can study it as I break down what I’m seeing:

Now, initially, aside from those Xenomorphs, I thought those were unfortunate victims of the alien tangled up in the mess of it all. The longer I look though, the more I realize that each humanoid figure looks basically identical: large men in comparison to most of the Xenos, all bald, they seem to have a very flat singular color tone (not a huge surprise given the style of the poster)… they definitely look like the Engineers we met in Prometheus.

That’s pretty cool.

It’s also cool to see a few slight variations of the Xenomorph design within the mass of bodies.

But now look at the poster in a different way, and focus on that massive shape behind all of these beasts.

The shape of the Queen’s head in James Cameron’s Aliens was almost triangular, but flipped upside down so that the wider portions of the head are at the top of the skull while it narrows as it nears the nasty beastie’s mouth. There are also interesting indentations and unique skeletal designs in the massive head.

Here’s a look at the queen’s head in Aliens.

Now here’s a look at the queen’s head in Alien vs Predator, which clearly utilizes a very similar design as that introduced in Cameron’s film.

Now, once more, look at that poster. It looks as though the massive, not-quite-smooth, indented and strangely structured shape behind all of the Xenomorphs and Engineers is actually the gigantic head of the queen. You can see similar designs particularly well on the upper left portion of the poster, though directly in the center of this one, it looks an awful lot like the center of the queen’s head.

Imagine sliding all of those monsters out of the frame for a second, and then realize it isn’t too difficult to imagine that hulking thing in the background being one absolutely huge alien head. More specifically, one absolutely huge alien queen head.

Call me crazy, but I think we just got a really cool tease. It seems as though we may already be seeing the queen in the second of Ridley Scott’s Alien prequels!
