Robert Rodriguez is Directing the ‘Escape from New York’ Remake
According to Deadline, Robert Rodriguez is the man who will step behind the camera to direct the remake of Escape from New York. Neil Cross will pen the new script.
John Carpenter’s classic 1981 picture starred Kurt Russell in one of his most iconic roles, that of the great antihero, Snake Plisskin.
John Carpenter will be directly involved in the remake, offering plenty of say in the tone of the film. He’ll also serve as executive producer on the picture.
We’ve got our eyes firmly affixed to this production, so expect updates in timely fashion.
The original film is set in the future, crime is out of control and New York City is a maximum security prison. Grabbing a bargaining chip right out of the air, convicts bring down the President’s plane in bad old Gotham. Gruff Snake Plissken, a one-eyed lone warrior new to prison life, is coerced into bringing the President, and his cargo, out of this land of undesirables.
