‘Annabelle: Creation’ Trailer is Here
Annabelle was a forgettable film. Annabelle: Creation has some promise, but there are a few things I’m seeing in the new trailer that scare me. Chief among those new things is the ugly CGI. Annabelle looks more terrifying when she seems tangible, and she never seems truly tangible once the decision is made to go with digital effects work. That’s the biggest and most concerning problem with the flick, it could end up looking a little silly. We don’t want silly. We want frightening.
David F. Sandberg is once again in the director’s seat, so we’ll see how his second big screen feature holds up in general, and how it stacks up to his big breakthrough pic, Lights Out. We’ve got a few months before we should begin making predictions and assessments, but it’s always fun to contemplate. Perhaps Sandberg will go the way of Mike Flanagan, each film looking and feeling better than the last. We’re behind the man, and certainly hope he stays right where he is for some time to come.
Javier Botet, Miranda Otto, Stephanie Sigman and Anthony LaPaglia star.
The film will arrive in theaters on August 11th.
