Real Life Horror: Scottish Family Needs Nanny for Supposedly Haunted House
Childcare.co.uk, a site for finding reliable babysitters, recently caused a stir with a genuine ad for a couple seeking a nanny for a haunted house.
The ad states: “We are friendly family of four with 2 children ages 5 and 7 living in a small village in the Scottish Borders. We have a lovely, spacious, historic property in a remote spot with spectacular views […] Duties would include preparing breakfast, getting the children ready for school, dropping off and picking up from school and assisting after school, including helping with homework and getting them ready for bed. My husband and I are both busy professionals who are often required to work away and there are occasions, up to 4 nights per week, (weekdays only) when we will both be away and you will be at the property alone in sole charge.”
[This already sounds like the setup for multiple horror movies.]
“You will be provided with your own comfortable room with en-suite bathroom and private kitchen. We are offering a salary of £50,000 gross per annum and 28 days holiday (plus bank holidays) for the right person.”
[According to an online money converter, this translates to almost $64,000 American dollars, an average of about $5,000 a month.]
“We have lived in our home for nearly 10 years. We were told it was ‘haunted’ when we bought it, but kept our minds open and decided to buy the house regardless. 5 nannies have left the role in the last year, each citing supernatural incidents as the reason, including strange noises, broken glass and furniture moving. This has obviously been a period of great upheaval for our children. We haven’t personally experienced any supernatural happenings, as they have been reported only while we’ve been out of the house, but we’re happy to pay above the asking rate, and feel it’s important to be as up-front as possible to find the right person.” [Shots of the interior of the house below.]
The founder of Childcare.co.uk, Richard Conway, stated “When we saw the advert we were stunned. Some of the guys at HQ were sceptical but after talking to the family and their previous employees we realised it was a genuine position. We have hundreds of thousands of providers on the site and we’re hoping that one of them will be able to help them. We’ve had some weird and wonderful families find childcare providers through the site, however I think this is probably the most interesting story we’ve heard. The family has assured us that no harm has come to anyone living in the house, however the nanny will have to have a strong disposition!”
One wonders what the children may have seen. With that kind of pay and amenities, surely someone will take the job…

Oh man… I might be dumb enough to take a nanny gig for 60K+ a year lol. I don’t get too bugged out by real, seemingly supernatural stuff. That said, I’ve never been a nanny in a haunted house lol
