John Carpenter’s ‘The Thing’ Turns 35 Years Old Today

Kurt Russell in The Thing

35 years ago to the day, John Carpenter offered up a film that, while not initially well-received, would eventually go on to become one of the most beloved films of our genre. The Thing was the picture, and makeup maestro, Rob Bottin, top notch cinematographer Dean Cundey, and stud leading man, Kurt Russell and an excellent gang of supporting performers helped to make the film a truly unique and terrifying experience.

The adoration the film now commands is damn near otherworldly itself, but every last bit of praise and respect chucked in the direction of The Thing is deserved. John Carpenter is an absolute legend, and this is no doubt one of his greatest offerings. So, we’re just taking a minute out of our day to say, Happy birthday, The Thing! We think you and your creators are absolutely amazing, and your place in the history books cannot be changed!
