‘Peelers’ and ‘Awakening the Zodiac’ Are Among the Four Exceptional Indie Films Arriving Today

It isn’t a very busy week for the horror genre. Films hitting Blu-ray and DVD and awfully limited, but the few that are headed for shelves are all enjoyable affairs, with one or two of these beasts proving excellent. Get a look at the four flicks being released that are most certainly worthy of a purchase!

Awakening the Zodiac

The story follows a down-on-their-luck couple who discovers a serial killer’s film reels. They decide to take the law into their own hands, risking everything for the chance at a $100,000 reward. It isn’t long until they find themselves in the killer’s lethal crosshairs.

Bethany

After Claire’s mother dies, she and her husband move back to her childhood home, only to have the abusive and traumatic memories of her mother come back and bring unrest into the house. Claire soon finds herself in a fog of past and present when her imaginary friend from childhood begins haunting her memories. What is this terrifying thing that is trying to reach out to her, and what does it want?

Here Alone

Isolated in the wilderness, Ann (Lucy Walters) struggles to survive after a mysterious epidemic decimates society. Ann’s solitary and regimented life is haunted by memories of her past and threatened by bloodthirsty zombies, known as “the infected,” that lurk just outside of the forest border. On a desperate journey to forage for food, Ann meets a teenage girl and her injured stepfather. Initially reluctant to let others into her world, Ann relents for both physical and emotional survival. As the infected close in and the trio are forced to fight for their lives, Ann must face the painful truth that these survivors may be more dangerous than the infected.

Former baseball player Blue Jean Douglas is closing down her small-town strip club and leaving for good. But her plans are not so easily attained when a group of coal miners show up and with them a deadly contaminant. What starts out as a last hurrah for the infamous strip club turns into a bloodbath. With time running out, Blue Jean must step up to the plate to try to put a stop to the spread of destruction before it’s too late and she loses everything she holds dear.
