Is ‘Wish Upon’ Going to Be Another Dreadfully Watered Down Teenie Bopper Horror?

I’ll be the first to admit that the trailer for Wish Upon isn’t just underwhelming, it’s scary in the worst way possible. This one looks like it might make The Bye Bye Man seem Oscar worthy. One glance and the vibe I’m getting is trendy but expendable PG-13 “Borror,” but I do hate the idea of judging a film on a trailer alone, so you can bet I’ll take a peek at the pic when it arrives on July 14th.
You can take a look at the trailer below and form your own early opinions.
John R. Leonetti (who helmed the underrated Wolves at the Door and the flat and forgettable Annabelle) directs from a script written by Barbara Marshall.
Joey King, Ryan Phillippe, Ki Hong Lee, and Mitchell Slaggert star.
Synopsis:
A teen girl discovers a magical box that will grant her seven wishes. As she uses her wishes for personal gain, bad things begin to happen to those around her. She discovers an evil entity lives inside the box and may be behind the gruesome deaths.
