Just recently I pondered the creation of a new, edgier and refined Spawn film. The original flick (obviously based on Todd McFarlane’s magnum opus) was a somewhat shaky production with some silly digital effects and a script that proved too watered down to give the amazing character real justice. It looks like McFarlane and our genre heroes at Blumhouse are going to make an attempt to give us, and the character, the movie we all deserve. The news broke at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con.
McFarlane is again writing – at least the initial draft – and he’ll get his wish: Todd McFarlane will also make his directorial debut!
“Having worked with many visionary directors, I think Todd’s unique artistic talents will only add to his role as director of this film,” Jason Blum noted.
We’re excited. Spawn is one hell of a character and who better to make him shine than the man who created the anti-heroic monster?
We’ll keep you in the loop as more 411 rolls in!
