Blood Drive: ‘Scar Tissue’ (S1; E10)

I know, the title made me think of the Red Hot Chili Peppers too.

Blood Drive Episode 10 Review

Director: Meera Menon
Stars: Alan Ritchson, Christina Ochoa, Thomas Dominique, Marama Corlett, Colin Cunningham

A vision quest like the one Arthur has been on is a singular thing. Grace finds this out the hard way this week as she wanders alone near the scar looking for her missing traveling companion. Finding him shouldn’t be too hard, as he’s left behind a trail of clues in the form of his notebook pages. But the man she finds is not the man she lost.

The good cop has stumbled upon a quaint village. Nothing this close to the Scar should be so stable, but the town of Cronenberg is as pleasant as a Disney theme park. Children play, flowers bloom, and townsfolk glide through the streets, resplendent in crisp folksy fashion and spaced-out smiles. It’s enough to make a man give up on his mission to take down a huge evil corporation and settle down.

Grace doesn’t buy this new philosophy, nor does she buy this town’s squeaky clean innocence.

And what’s up with that green gas?

Back in California Aki is learning to live with the guilt of her past while prepping for a dangerous future. HEART will know that she’s become human, and they won’t be too pleased. She and Chris need to get to Arthur as quickly as possible. Too bad they have to take an unexpected pit stop. HEART has located the former sexbot and now she’s doing her best Lisa-Frank-meets-Linda-Blair.

Chris needs to leave her behind, but don’t worry. She’ll be waiting for him.

Slink feels the corporate weight in this episode, as he is–once again–unceremoniously fired. Blood Drive audiences loved Grace and Arthur, and Slink let them get away. Never fear! The rancours ringmaster knows where they might be. He may not be able to get his show back, but perhaps he can regain his dignity.

Back in Cronenberg, Grace has uncovered a terrible truth. What you see isn’t always what you get, and that is reflected in every citizen of this Scar city. It looks like the sulfurous haze covering the town is more than a little friendly air pollution. Can Grace get Arthur to see the real Cronenberg before it’s too late? Will Slink’s arrival help or hinder our heroes?

Each week, new questions are revealed, but where will our characters find the answers? Perhaps we’ll find out next week.

Rating: 4/5
