On This Day in Horror History: Sam Raimi’s ‘Darkman’ Arrived 27 Years Ago
Sam Raimi was have gotten his start working on films like Evil Dead and Evil Dead 2, but he also squeezed in a few total treasures when not focusing on those damn Deadites. 27 years ago to this very day, in fact, Raimi blessed us with the insanely entertaining Darkman.
Darkman fared well at the box office, opening at number one before amassing an impressive $48 million worldwide, meaning even international markets were digging this one. For the record, the film was also so popular that Darkman costumes were released for the Halloween season.
The film starred the late, great Larry Drake (if you haven’t seen it, look into Drake’s stunning performance in Dark Night of the Scarecrow) and a pre-Taken Liam Neeson.
Happy Birthday, Darkman… maybe one day soon they’ll throw you on the remake block.
