Would You Purge?

I think most of us know what it’s like to be done wrong by someone.

Maybe you lost a job you desperately needed because your boss was threatened by your advancements within company ranks. Maybe you were bullied daily as a child by an eighth grader with a beard and a daily need for your lunch money. Maybe the local hunk stole the girl of your dreams, only to curse her with one specific STD that never departs, and a reputation no one could tolerate.

Everybody’s been done wrong by someone, and everybody’s done someone wrong.

But to what extent?

Do you have hatred in your heart for someone? Ask yourself that, and answer it honestly.

And then ask yourself, if you could get away with doing anything to that person, just one night – one 12-hour stretch of time in which to exact your revenge – would you?

Would you purge?

Don’t answer instinctively.

That’s disgusting! It’s inhumane! It’s immoral! It’s primitive!

Yeah, it’s all of those things, and a whole lot more.

But we’re a savage lot, are we not?

So, ask yourself: would you purge?

Think about it long and hard, and then answer that question honestly.

By the way, no matter how it might alter your opinion of me, I can say in all honesty that yes, I would most certainly purge… and I’m not certain of how bad that might make me feel.
