Amazing ‘Stranger Things’ and the Movies You Have to Watch on Netflix Right NOW!

The Girl in the Photographs

This pic is loaded with issues, from the script to a few of the performances. It just falls far short of a legitimately sublime artistic production. But here’s the good news: this slasher – basically – is a lot of brainless fun with a couple of very memorable moments and excellent visuals. Though not the kind of film to ever be in the running for any amazing awards, it’s still entertaining. The Girl in the Photographs may not necessarily warrant a purchase, but it definitely warrants at least one chance to impress.

Curse of Chucky

You’ll have a hard time convincing me that Curse of Chucky is anything short of the best, or second best piece in the Child’s Play franchise. It’s an extraordinary breath of fresh air for the brand, which spent a few too many years catering to fans of comedy (the Child’s Play franchise actually runs parallel, in more ways than one, to the A Nightmare on Elm Street franchise). Funny Chucky can be a riot, sure, but terrifying Chucky does something entirely different for me, and I loved that. Great atmosphere, a top notch performance from Brad Dourif’s daughter Fiona and a truly unforgiving approach to the story as a whole (it’s hard to put into words just how much I enjoyed this pic) elevate this sixth Child’s Play installment above the bulk of other Chucky flicks out there.

Fright Night 2 (2013)

You may be shocked to find that this direct-to-DVD sequel (it’s not really a sequel, at all, despite using some character names you’ll recognize) is, on many levels, more entertaining than Craig Gillespie’s 2011 remake of the original Fright Night. The digital effects are far more controlled, a new, female villain keeps things interesting, and a couple eye-popping action sequences look far superior to many of the action scenes in Gillespie’s movie. Make no mistake: you already – for the most part – know this movie. But there are just enough twists in store to force a smile and a nod of appreciation. If you’ve intentionally steered clear of this film (I can’t blame you, as I did the same, initially) it may be time to actually give it a try.

Road Games

Road Games is pretty far out, and it’ll leave you wondering frequently when all the odd spins in the story will slow down. Don’t sweat it too much, jump in and let it take you away, because things come together in impressive fashion. Although this isn’t a perfect film, and it may never catch on with the bulk of horror fans, it’s engaging, sometimes creepy and often flabbergasting. Maybe it’s my affinity for any film even remotely near related to hitch-hiking that won me over immediately. Then again, maybe it’s the simple fact that Abner Pastoll put together a killer movie.
