14 Actors Who Suffered Serious Injuries or Died While Filming Horror Movies

Editor’s Note: Okay, this list isn’t dedicated to actors alone, this list will also cover some of the stories you don’t hear much. That means we’ll also  be talking stunt performers to crew members.

Ever wonder how often actors are injured? How about stuntmen? Those guys – and gals – have to take some serious abuse given the always dangerous grind of their occupation.

The truth is, everyone on a big set with special effects and grandiose plans faces a little bit of that danger, whether they’re aware of it or not. This list might provide a few surprises. It’s time to look at 13 unfortunate accidents that left the entertainers of the world either seriously injured, or even worse, deceased.

The Call – Halle Berry (2013)

Halle Berry has had some bad luck on set. As you’ll see in this list, The Call isn’t the only production that led to a trip to the hospital for the stunning starlet. In this particular instance she found herself at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after she fell and hit her head on a concrete floor while shooting a fight sequence. Hope they at least got the shot, for goodness sake.

Resident Evil: The Final Chapter – Olivia Jackson and Ricardo Cornelius (2015)

One of the saddest tales you’ll read on this list, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter is going to end up being known as the only film in history with dark enough occurrences to rival the Poltergeist franchise. Olivia Jackson, a seasoned stunt double suffered severe injuries in an onset motorcycle accident that left her in a medically induced coma.

According to Wikipedia, during a high-speed motorcycle chase, she collided with a camera arm. Among Jackson’s injuries were cerebral trauma, a crushed and degloved face, a severed artery in her neck, a paralyzed arm, several broken ribs, a shattered scapula, a broken clavicle, torn fingers with a thumb that needed to be amputated, and five nerves torn out of her spinal cord. Her paralyzed left arm was amputated in June 2016.

Just a few days after Jackson’s horrific accident, a dreaded fate again touched down on the project, as crew member Ricardo Cornelius was crushed to death by a Hummer H1 that slid off a platform he was operating.

I hate to be that guy, because I make a mockery of no man or woman’s demise, but come on now, maybe this is a serious message from a higher power sending a note to remember henceforth: let the Resident Evil Franchise rest.

Gothika – Halle Berry (2003)

No way! Halle Berry again?

We told you she’d make the list more than once. This time, while filming Gothika Halle Berry broke her arm during a fight scene with Robert Downey, Jr. in a mental ward. Apparently Downey was restraining Berry when he heard the pop himself and subsequently realized he’d hurt her.

And there we were thinking his out-of-control days were long behind him. You don’t mess Downey, plain and simple.

Underworld – Scott Speedman (2003)

Scott Speedman, when compared to some others on this list actually suffered pretty minor injuries on the set of Underworld. He received a concussion when a hefty set prop came crashing down on his melon. Yeah, he can suck that up.

CrossBones – Neal Fredericks (2004)

CrossBones isn’t a well-known production, but sometimes things go wrong, regardless of how large or small the production is. Cinematographer Neal Fredericks was killed when the Cessna from which he was filming crashed off the coast of Florida on August 14^th, 2004. The director, pilot, and two other crew members were able to escape the wreckage, but Fredericks was unable to free himself from his harness and he drowned.

The Dark Knight – Conway Wickliffe (2008)

When you’re dealing with enormous productions things get swept under the rug a bit more. While it was little more than a small blurb on the radar and a flicker on the news breaks, back in 2007 Cameraman Conway Wickliffe was killed while working on The Dark Knight. At the time of his death he was riding in a pickup truck moving parallel to a stunt car. Unfortunately the truck failed to make a 90-degree turn and crashed into a tree.

Highlander II: The Quickening – Christopher Lambert and Michael Ironside (1991)

Two ruffians duking it out on the set of a Highlander movie? What in the world could possibly go wrong? Well, Christopher Lambert could end up with part of his finger severed during a sword fight scene that also left Michael Ironside with a chipped tooth.

Two thoughts: Lambert got the short end of that stick, and there can be only one!
