Bloody Cuts Presents: ‘Prey’ (Review)
Written by: Matt Molgaard
Directed by: Jonny Franklin, Ben Kent
Cast: Jessica Blake, David Blood, Fergal Philips
There’s an interesting eroticism in this film which separates it from plenty we’ve seen over the years. Prey doesn’t exactly venture into uncharted territory or anything of that nature, but it isn’t necessarily common for short films to be so sexually suggestive.
But don’t worry folks, the sexual side of things don’t necessarily take center stage once the story begins to come into focus. And, the story, for the record, is fairly engaging and it comes accompanied by a wicked jump scare or two.
We get energetic performances from a green cast, and we get a pretty savage example of extreme revenge. It’s an interesting little film, and a lot of that has to do with the charisma of those involved.
Nice, crisp little picture with a surprise or two in weight. Look for some stellar camera work on this particular entrée in the Bloody Cuts lineup. Although there aren’t many scenes that call for big popping visuals, we still receive a respectable final product that’s bare bit extremely tidy.
Give it a try, especially if you’re a psychological horror fan more so than a grimier horror fan.
