Shelley Duvall of ‘The Shining’ Battling Serious Mental Illness
We’re going a little tabloid on you here, drawing some information from the loathsome Dr. Phil show.
Shelley Duvall, who brought The Shining‘s Wendy to life seamlessly, was a recent guest on the show (the episode has yet to air), and her statements are more than enough to cause concern for fans.
Duvall, 67, told Dr. Phil that she doesn’t believe Robin Williams is deceased, but rather that he’s become some form of a shapeshifter.
Apparently Duvall also believes she’s being hounded by someone or something mysterious. When asked who that might be, Duvall responded by telling Dr. Phil that, “The man who’s threatening me is the Sheriff of Nottingham.”
There are plenty of heartbreaking statements coming from Duvall, and frankly, this is tear-jerking stuff. There’re clearly some mental issues that are chipping away at Duvall’s psyche, and although the hack known as Dr. Phil isn’t likely to be able to do a damned thing about her problems, hopefully there’s some thin shred of decency in the man, and he and the show producers can find a way to get Duvall some help.
Whether she ever returns to a film set is irrelevant, her health should be the first and foremost concern for those in her life.
Get well, Shelly. We’re all rooting for you.
Here’s a preview of what’s to come tomorrow.
