Mugshots: 10 Famous Horror Icons with Criminal Records!

Christian Slater

Incident: Like Furlong, Slater seems to enjoy (well, he did in the past, at least) spending time behind bars. His preferred method of arrival involves assaulting women to varying degrees.

Horror Ties: Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles, Mindhunters, Alone in the Dark, Hollow Man II, Rites of Passage, Playback and Stranded are among Slater’s better known genre works.

Winona Ryder

Incident: Winona’s noteworthy issues stretch back to 2001 when Ryder’s career had hit a rough stretch and she’d begun using a cocktail of pharmaceuticals to make it through each day. This, of course, led to a shopping spree that included no paying. Ah, that’s the life! Ryder didn’t serve any serious jail time, but she did spend some time working community service and repaying a few debts.

Horror Ties: Winona Ryder, whether on top of the world or down in the dumps, will always be an amazing talent with an amazing résumé. Included in the darker corners of her ledger are Beetlejuice, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, Black Swan, Netflix’s new smash hit, Stranger Things and the absolutely gorgeous Edward Scissorhands, to name a fair share.

Wesley Snipes

Incident: Back in ’06 Snipes got the book thrown at him for conspiring to defraud the United States He was also charged with one count of knowingly making or aiding and abetting the making of a false and fraudulent claim for payment against the United States and six counts of willfully failing to file federal income tax returns. Snipes served roughly three years in prison.

Horror Ties: Wesley Snipes may always be best recognized as Blade, the day-walking vampire hunter. To date three films have been shot, and two of those films were pretty damn impressive. But Snipes has also surfaced in flicks like Gallowwalkers. Talks of a fourth Blade film have been in the headlines for a year or so now. No solid word on whether or not Marvel will pursue the sequel. Snipes is set to begin filming the dark fantasy pic, Chronicles of the Mayan Tunnel in the immediate future.

Amber Heard

Incident: Long before the extremely sketchy Johnny Depp accusations, Amber Heard was busy beating on women, or so it would seem. In 2009 Heard was hit with a domestic violence charge, as she reportedly battered then partner, Tasya van Ree. Not much came of the case, but given recent developments with Depp, one must begin to wonder if Heard doesn’t have a bit of an anger problem.

Horror Ties: Amber has been on a major tear in the realm of horror. It all started with All the Boys Love Mandy Lane, a fun slasher with big nods to little pics of yesteryear. From there her credits include Zombieland, The Stepfather, The Ward, And Soon the Darkness, Drive Angry and the almost-too-fun Machete Kills.

Victor Salva

Victor-Salva

Incident: And here’s the story that we all know. Back in 1988 Salva was convicted for some pretty grotesque offenses. To sum it all up, he sexually violated one of the young boys who was busy fronting his creepy feature, Clownhouse. The trial was big news, and Salva was eventually sentenced to three years imprisonment, about half of which he served.

Horror Ties: Whether Salva is a scumbag or a saint, he’s been a part of a few very important genre films. Sadly, Clownhouse, the very film that brought forth these disgusting acts, was a deeply disturbing and technically successful film. Salva didn’t stop there. In the decades to pass Salva has shot Jeepers Creepers, Jeepers Creepers 2, Rosewood Lane and Dark House. The third film in the Jeepers Creepers franchise is currently in production.
