Top 5 Underrated Horror Films

Wondering what horror films the gang at Instageeked find sorely underrated? We’ve got some answers for you!

5 The Triangle

You will not be left by Christopher Smith’s Triangle in a cold sweat, but you’ll think it is utterly fascinating, and it will leave you scratching your head upon its chilling climax.

It combines both horror and sci-fi elements, and it’s also an intelligent movie which is nicely crafted and acted (especially by Melissa George in the starring character).

They become convinced that someone else is aboard, and a startling discovery sets up a gripping chain of events.

Additionally, it has an extra emotional element that may stick in the back of your head for days after the credits roll, although it contains many classic horror tropes and has enough blood and mayhem to keep most entertained.

4 You’re Next

Most home invasion movies are truly terrifying; You’re Next isn’t one of these films. Rather, it is a black comedy that’s a fun flick that all horror buffs will get a kick out of.

You’ll laugh just as much as you’ll be shocked and thrilled, and fans of the sub-genre will enjoy the identifiable tropes which have predominated home invasion movies since their inception, in addition to the new spin that director Adam Wingard brings.

3 A L’interieur (Inside)

Tend not to view this movie with a girl that is pregnant. A L’interieur (Inside) is a French home invasion picture that has a widowed pregnant girl have a late night visitor from a strange woman dressed in black.

A L’interieur makes Saw look like the latest Disney flick, but the bloodbath that ensues is just a part of what makes this a profoundly unsettling picture. The tension is built masterfully by Alexandre Bustillo and Julien Maury, using light and dark to perfection to keep audiences on the edge of the seat.

The borders are kept in darkness so you’re never completely certain where the mysterious girl in black is lurking, or if she’s there, although the center of the room may be lit. The story is also well crafted and adds to the brutality of the movie that was brilliant yet atrocious.

2 Martyrs

Martyrs isn’t for the faint of heart and is a film that even seasoned horror buffs will fight to sit through. Not only a blood fest that is harrowing, but it is also a movie that investigates some deeply profound topics.

On account of its brutality, it’s considered extreme cinema and is an enormously polarizing movie. It is also likely to be a film that you will just see one time, although those who do not mind gore and unsettling scenes will have plenty to talk about once the credits roll.

The storyline involves a young woman searching for payback, and a greatly affecting secret society looking to find the secrets of the afterlife is uncovered by this. Martyrs is heralded within the genre as one of the horror movies that were amazing, but it’s not for everyone.

1 The Loved Ones

Most teen prom movies are boring, foreseeable rather than scary. This isn’t the case for The Loved Ones, an Australian horror project that’s manager Sean Byrne’s debut. The Loved Ones is a deranged, macabre picture which additionally comprises some very dark humor.

Brent is grieving the death of his father, wrapped in guilt and self-harming, but he plans to go to prom night with his girlfriend, Holly.

The obsessive Lola asks to dance with him, and she does not take this rejection nicely. Lola and her daddy kidnap Brent, and they subsequently have their eccentric prom at her house, which can be as troubling as it truly is hilarious.

This is not for individuals with a weak gut as the violence is brutal, but it’s also a superb film that’s quite unlike some other teen horror you will see.
