‘Deliver Us from Evil’ Earns Near Perfect Score

Written by: Paula Limbaugh Just got back from viewing Deliver Us From Evil and I have to say “What a freakin’ awesome movie!”  A lot of make you jump scenes, plenty of action and a seriously good plot.  The movie is inspired by the non-fiction book Beware the Night by Ralph Sarchie and Lisa Collier Cool.  Ralph Sarchie is a 26 year veteran of the NYPD.  It was while working the graveyard shift that he began honing his skills as a demonologist.  Lorraine Warren (The Conjuring) trained Ralph as a demonologist and he even assisted the Warren’s in performing exorcisms.  The movie consists of a few cases that are in his book, that were merged into one cohesive storyline.

Eric Bana portrays Ralph Sarchie, Olivia Munn is his wife and Joel McHale is cast as his partner Butler.  Edgar Ramirez is the Spanish priest Father Mendoza who reaches out to help Sarchie in his quest to track down this evil lurking in his city.

The story begins in the Middle East, where three soldiers, Santino (Sean Harris), Jimmy (Chris Coy), and Griggs (Scott Johnson) are involved in warfare. They chance upon a mysterious cave and enter, once inside they encounter an inexplicable horror that is brought back to the States with them.

At first Sarchie and Butler are baffled by a series of horrific crimes in their district but eventually with the help of Father Mendoza they begin to realize these are no ordinary crimes, these are crimes of the worst kind of evil, demon possession.  With his own family in danger, Sarchie is in a race against the devil.

Be warned this is not a slasher flick, nor is it filled with the gratuitous topless girl scenes, so if that is what makes up a horror flick for you, stay away.  On the other hand if you are looking for a well told story that will make you close your eyes and then slowly peek between your fingers to see what will happen next, then this is the one for you!

Scott Derrickson directed the movie and co-wrote the screenplay with Paul Harris Boardman. Jerry Bruckheimer is the producer.   Check out the trailer below!
