Here’s What’s New on DVD and blu-ray This Week (August 12, 2014)

It’s an interesting week for disc aficionados. An assortment of indie films are headed to DVD and Blu-ray, an awesome ‘80s flick gets the Scream Factory makeover and a few heavily anticipated hardcore projects will finally be afforded the chance to become a piece of someone’s collection. Here’s a look at the films that were released on August 12th.

Bunnyman Massacre (Midnight Releasing): The adventures of Joe and Bunnyman know no limit of bloodlust and carnage. Bodies pile up as Bunnyman indiscriminately slaughters anything that crosses his path in a mutually beneficial relationship that gives Joe plenty of beef jerky to sell in his local store. But cracks in the relationship emerge as the bodies start to pile up too fast after Bunnyman finishes up with a couple dozen kids in a school bus. Joe is forced with the unsettling task of disposing of the bodies by any means necessary. A problem he only exacerbates by occasionally joining in on the carnage.

In addition to Joe’s body disposal problem, the local sheriff becomes suspicious with the disappearance of a few of his deputies. His investigation crosses paths with two persistent sisters who have been on the run from Joe and the Bunnyman and thus far survived their freight train of chainsaw mutilation. Some will live, some will die but only one thing is guaranteed: all will be damaged.

The Butterfly Room (Naedomi): Ann, a reclusive elegant lady, with an obsession for butterflies, is surprisingly befriended by the eerily beautiful young Alice. Using her seductive innocence, Alice establishes a disturbing mother daughter relationship with Ann. Lured into her twisted world, Ann soon discovers that she is not the only recipient of the girl’s affections.

Crawl or Die (Vertical Entertainment): An elite security team assigned the task of protecting the last known woman who can become pregnant, find themselves caught in an endless claustrophobic underground tunnel system. The team soon learns – the real horror is not the unstoppable force chasing them, but the ever growing smaller tunnel itself.

Dark Space (Phase 4 Films): When their shuttle is damaged on the way to Centari Five, six friends are forced to crash land on the surface of a mysterious alien planet. Stranded with little hope of rescue, it soon becomes clear that they are not alone. Hunted by the planets ferocious inhabitants and targeted by heavily-armed forces, they will have to struggle just to survive.

The Empty (1-800 PRIME CD): A man destroyed by the death of his wife finds refuge in a crumbling apartment building where all of his darkest fears begin to come to life. He must now kill his nightmares before they kill him.
