When it comes to the small screen, there are some tricks that don’t necessarily work all that well. Take for example a show like The Walking Dead, and the groan-inducing cliffhanger show-runner Scott M. Gimple left us on just a few weeks back. See, the time off between seasons – a multi-month hiatus utilized to arrange, write and iron out the bugs of the upcoming season before filming once more resumes – often affords the time for cast members to slip off and pick up work elsewhere, before jumping back into the fold.
And sometimes, when they do slip off, it spoils a few things for the show they’re breaking from.
Once more, we look to AMC’s The Walking Dead.
Season six ended with a POV shot of the menacing Negan bashing someone’s head in with his beautiful barbed-wire wrapped baseball bat, Lucille. We saw the slaughter through the eyes of the victim, thus leaving everyone at home wondering whether or not the show would stick to its comic source, which leaves longtime fan-favorite Glenn a bloody pile of death, or if viewers would be treated to a surprise as the TWD crew kill off a different character.
We might all still be wondering if Negan really killed Glenn, if it weren’t for some recent casting news released by THR.
According to the powerful news outlet, Steven Yeun has signed on to shoot Bong Joon-Ho’s monster movie Okja. The film is being produced by Plan B for Netflix and began principal photography today, while filming on The Walking Dead season 7 begins in May. It is conceivable that Yeun has managed to juggle his schedule like a seasoned master of the screen, essentially enabling him to star in the film as well as return to The Walking Dead. It is possible. But it isn’t at all likely. Not at all.
As the months unravel before the season seven return of The Walking Dead we’ll no doubt begin seeing images and hearing rumors from the sets/locations. Smart money says Glenn isn’t a part of those discussions.
We’re gonna miss ya, little buddy!
