‘Monster Squad’ Director Fred Dekker Has Plenty to Say About ‘Stranger Things’

It’s always nice when an established and successful genre maker voices his or her opinion on a new, trending project. And if ever there was a trending project, it’s Netflix’s Stranger Things.

The series has caught on like wildfire, fans across the globe praising the series for its inventive decisions and endless homages to classic 80s films.

But what does Fred Dekker, director of Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps, have to say about the show?

He took to his Facebook page to uncork his unmistakable opinion of the series.

“Say what you will about Stranger Things being a pastiche of ’80s genre fiction and movies (Stephen King, E.T., ALIEN, Twin Peaks, POLTERGEIST, etc. Maybe even one or two things I did. The fact is, it stands on its own as a beautifully written and realized work of imaginative, emotional, absolutely top notch genre movie-making. Or as Shane Black and I said the other day while working on re-writes for THE PREDATOR, ‘What would the Duffer Brothers do?’ My highest recommendation.”

Now that right there is a certified co-signature from a living legend. And that means if you haven’t been watching Stranger Things, you’re only depriving yourself!

Catch the entire first season on Netflix now.

Synopsis: A strange town where everyone knows everyone Is subject to a peculiar incident. The town then undergoes a state of panic, before the government becomes involved. Also, there’s a clueless but charming sheriff, who is simply trying to get the town back into control while a smarter character figures out the mystery.
