Way, way back when Rick and his group ran into the damn-near-mad Dr. Edwin Jenner at the CDC, we learned that Jenner had decided it was suicide time, as he didn’t want to live in a world overrun by shambling corpses. For some odd reason Jenner decided Rick and his group should go ahead and join the suicide squad. Well, Rick talked him out of that and convinced the doctor to give them a chance at survival. Jenner’s response was a gold one, and the major Easter Egg of the season seven premiere.

“The day will come when you won’t be,” Jenner tells a thankful Rick, in direct reference to being allowed to live. Well, Jenner was right as rain. About this point, Rick is definitely experiencing the day that he isn’t so grateful to be given the chance to find a way in this horrific world.
