Back in season two Otis shot a deer, but the bullet went through the deer and hit Carl. Innocence was ultimately put at great risk, unintentionally.

This all repeats itself in episode four, when Michonne is practicing her sharp-shooting on an advancing walker. While she doesn’t do too well in landing that head shot, she does hit a deer in the process.

The slaughtering of Abraham and Glenn, was a display of power by Negan, but in the sense that they’d presented a direct threat to Negan, they were innocent. They didn’t do that. However, their death directly leads to Michonne’s distraught shooting session.

Carl survived his close call when the deer was involved. Glenn and Abraham aren’t going to be coming back, but this deer is dead all the same.
