VOD Roundup: 10 Best Films Streaming on Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, Shudder and Tubi TV

Shudder

Dearest Sister

One of three films I haven’t seen this lineup, Dearest Sister already has a wealth of praise being hurled in its direction, and I’m going to give it a go for that very reason. You might be wise to do the same.

Mountain of the Cannibal God

A relatively savage and controversial film, I still get a major kick out of Mountain of the Cannibal God. Maybe it’s flat out nostalgia, but there’s something about this trek into a forest that holds great dangers that does something for me personally.

Crystal Lake Memories

I got an idea – do yourself a favor and invest like six hours in this extremely thorough and engaging documentary that guides us through every film in the franchise.

Fright Night

Forget about the remake that was drowned in CGI, stick with the old school classic that the brilliant Tom Holland shot back in the ‘80s. The characters are endearing, Chris Sarandon made an awe inspiring villain and “Peter Vincent” is the faux heroic terror host of old. It’s all just masterful in every way imaginable.

Cooties

Great comedy, great characters, brutal zombie kids and the flimsy fortress of an elementary school, a handful of survivors’ only hope. The movie is amazing and so is the cast. If you like flicks like Zombieland or Scouts Guide to the Zombie Apocalypse, you’ll probably love this beast!

Creep

This isn’t the recently released found footage flick, this is Christopher Smith’s wicked creepy film from 2004. If you like subterranean or claustrophobic types of movies, you’re going to love this. If creepy monsters tickle you too, then you’re really, really in for a nice surprise.

Rabid

Once upon a time David Cronenberg told an amazing zombie movie. It was Rabid, and it earned quite a bit of praise and fan loyalty. There’s no need to jump too deep into details of a zombie story, but you can rest assured you’re going to get something a bit refreshing from a visionary like Cronenberg.

Shrew’s Nest

Here’s a piece I haven’t had the fortune of checking out just yet, but I’m hearing a lot of good things, so I’m going to head out on a limb and toss it into the recommendation pile.

31

Some will love it, and some will hate it. For my buck, it was one of Rob Zombie’s greatest pictures to date. It’s a super savage rendition of The Running Man, and I don’t have the slightest problem with that. And, for the record, Richard Brake turns in an award worthy performance.

Blood from the Mummy’s Tomb

We get a somewhat unique spin on things of the mummy variety, as in this film the mummy is a queen, and she’s something to be coveted and feared. This one has the brilliant Hammer look to it, and when you bring Hammer, beautiful dames and legendary character actor Andrew Keir together, you know you’ve got a winner on your hands.
