On This Day in Horror History: ‘The Haunting’s’ Julie Harris Passed Away in 2013

Julie Harris in the Haunting The Haunting

If you’ve never seen Robert Wise’s classic 1963 big screen adaptation of Shirley Jackson’s mystifying story, The Haunting, you’re missing out on a good film (and amazing novel) with a few fair effects, some gorgeous and daring camera work and some shockingly versatile performances. Of all the memorable performances that The Haunting has to offer, it is and always has been Julie Harris’ take on a neurotic and unraveling mind that successfully stole the show. Sadly, Harris passed away on this day, August 24th in 2013. She was 87 years old.

She died as a result of congestive heart failure.

We wish you all the best on the other side, Julie – we sincerely do!

If you don’t know much about Harris’ career, try looking into the following films: The Holy Terror, The Dark Half, The Outer Limits and Tales of the Unexpected.
