Stephen King’s ‘It’ Fronting the Charge as Clowns Trend in Horror; 10 Scariest Clown Films in Existence
01 It
The original mini-series transfer of Stephen King’s It hasn’t aged very well (we’re hoping the upcoming Blu-ray transfer gives us a more embraceable look), but it carries a degree of charm that is rarely spawned on screen. There’s something very special and endearing about the innocent but bold members of the Losers’ Club. We love these kids, and we want them to prevail when evil comes knocking. And evil does indeed come knocking.
Pennywise the Clown, the most frightening clown ever put to film, is a child killer. He’s a manipulative, savvy and sadistic freak. He’s not human and he doesn’t care much for humans, either. He simply cruises through small comfortable communities and robs homes of children, permanently changing a lot of lives in the process. From his look, to Tim Curry’s horrifying performance, Pennywise never escapes your mind once you’ve seen it.

We don’t know what next year’s big screen transfer will bring us, but we’re very optimistic. No one can truly replicate Tim Curry’s performance, but Bill Skarsgard is actually a really creepy dude who pulls off smooth and menacing very, very well. His big eyes and elongated stature could add something to Skarsgard’s physical performance as well. I don’t know if Andrés Muschietti’s version will be a homerun or not, but I think we’re about to meet a new Pennywise that won’t necessarily require comparison’s to Curry’s masterful work, but will instead stand on its own as an amazing performance from a very solid performer.
