Stephen King’s ‘It’ Fronting the Charge as Clowns Trend in Horror; 10 Scariest Clown Films in Existence

06 The Houses October Built

You’ll hear a whole slew of genre fans label Bobby Roe’s found footage film, The Houses October Built forgettable. I’d argue that case all night long. This isn’t an easily forgettable feature, and, in regards to found footage, it exercises a lot of different ideas that still feel atypical of the subgenre.

The movie follows a group of 20-30-somethings as they travel across the map in search of the most extreme haunted attractions. Sounds fun, until the group begins to realize they’re frequently encountering some of the same horrific clowns, and it doesn’t seem to be an accident that these paths continue to intersect.

Some of the greatest clown makeup we’ve seen, The Houses October Built really delivers on the chills, and if you’re willing to give another found footage flick a chance, you’ll probably find yourself enjoying, or at the very least, respecting the ingenuity of Roe’s film. It’s just an alarming piece of clown cinema that deserves a place in your collection. Watch it come Halloween time, you’ll thank us for the recommendation on November 1st.
