10 Ultraviolent Films That Shock to the Core
Green Room
Green Room may actually rest at the bottom of this list, which is a big statement because there are a solid handful of extremely brutal and unforgiving sequences. I’m not out to spoil the film for you, but I will say this: The members of a punk band find themselves locked in the green room after witnessing a murder. Neo-Nazi skinheads run the bar, and it was one of these skinheads who committed the murder. Sudden paranoia sets in. Obviously, witnessing such a crime means this group of youngsters aren’t just walking out of the building feeling carefree. They’re fighting they’re way out, struggling to remain alive while a swarm of racists and rabid dogs descend on the young musicians.
While it all sounds wonderful, and it all looks wonderful (an annual favorite of mine), and most loose ends are tied tightly thanks to a sharp script from Jeremy Saulnier, who also happens to direct, there’s a very true melancholy to the picture… especially seeing, and knowing that Anton Yelchin won’t be making any more movies, ever again.
I’ll stop myself from digressing now.
Green Room is a great picture that leaves our stomachs rolling about on a few occasions, but ultimately extends an introduction to some real talent. We also get an awesome performance from the amazing and aforementioned Anton Yelchin, who, sadly passed on earlier this year.
