10 Ultraviolent Films That Shock to the Core

Ichi the Killer

Ichi the Killer is all about pain and torment. That’s what the pic is about. Sure Takashi Miike gives us some interesting subs to contemplate, and aid in the pacing of the film, but at the end of the day it doesn’t get much done, and films don’t get all too much viler than this film here. In earlier and latter career stages, Miike seemed to focus more on shock and less on narrative. Movies like Ichi the Killer make for fine examples of this ever swinging pendulum trapped in Miike’s brain.

I’ll go ahead and extend a warning to anyone and everyone who has yet to see this film: It’s a genuinely shocking piece of work with a major emphasis on gore. That said, if you enjoy Hellraiser films, you may dig this one, as in some ways, the picture is relatively similar (I use that word loosely) Hellraiser. Worth a watch only if you live for peeling flesh.
