12 Important Moments from Sam Raimi’s ‘Evil Dead’

43:25: Another battle breaks out. This time Scott is attacked by Shelly. And this fight is long and drawn out, the tides often swaying in opposite directions. Eventually Scott gets the better of Shelly and he proceeds to completely dismember her body, separating limbs and head from torso. It’s an interesting maneuver that years later can be seen as something of a distraction – an intentional point of trickery. We’re supposed to now believe without doubt that Scott is the film’s hero, and when the pressure mounted, it was Ash who looked cowardly, essentially freezing up in what could have been his final moments in this world. Very interesting scene here for a few different reasons, and that’s why it’s a personal favorite moment from the movie. It’s certainly a hell of a lot more intricate than it appears to be on the surface.

Keep it Together, Coward
